Of the $100, $58 is a tax-deductible donation to the Friends while $42 goes to the County to cover the cost of the parking pass. A Patrons membership is like a super-charged parking permit and more!

The Friends “cherry pick” our favorite projects to support and finance from a list of fun, high-impact projects in the Master Plan. We can also propose other projects. Every member’s input is welcome.

The County is very encouraging of our efforts. The Friends teams up with local businesses and grant-givers. We can also accept endowments from benefactors. We are the public/private interface for the Parks.

Thanks to the new Patrons program, our parks can become even more exciting!

Improved Entrance to Lake Lansing!

Thank you to Meridian Township for the matching funds for the ADA sidewalk entrance to Lake Lansing Park South! This will make our beautiful Art Deco-type park entrance that much better. Grass is nice, but the resulting access wasn’t often used. This enhancement will raise the profile of the park entrance.

Donations to the Friends go quickly and directly toward making specific park projects happen!

It was neat having the presentation at the revived Ski Lodge in Lake Lansing Park North. Winter fun is a thing! It’s great having ski amenities back in the park! …Rentals, snacks, warming stove, hot cocoa, and trail grooming! And I’d been skiing earlier!

Friends Sponsor Trail Upgrades!

The Friends worked with several funding sources to sponsor much-needed upgrades to the trails at Burchfield Park.

We matched funds with the TCBA (Tri-County Bicycle Association), the DALMAC Fund, the MMMBA (Mid-Michigan Mt-Bike Association), and the Parks Dept on a $17,000 project to create wayfinding signage and a new overall trails map and an information kiosk and a bicycle repair station.

Burchfield Park has received countless hours of volunteer work from the MMMBA to improve the trails and to finish this project for improved signage to make it easy for users to know where they are on this complex network of trails.

Shown here at the DALMAC Fund Awards ceremony is Jeff Potter, of the Friends, receiving a DALMAC Fund grant check of $5,000 from Steve Leiby, of the TCBA. They are accompanied by volunteer Anne Grofvert of the MMBA and Burchfield Park Manager Jeff Gehl.
